Template Packages

Create, share, and manage .kpkg template packages for any workflow

Overview

KeisenVPA uses .kpkg template packages to organize and distribute sets of prompts and document templates. Each package bundles one or more templates into a single file that can be imported, exported, and shared.

Template packages are:

  • Open format — a .kpkg file is a ZIP archive of plain JSON files; packages you export can be opened and read (the bundled packages are encrypted)
  • Managed entirely in-app — Create, edit, import, and export packages without any external tools
  • Portable — Share packages with colleagues by sending the .kpkg file
  • Customizable — Each template is a button name, a prompt, and an optional description; write the prompt for any workflow
  • Multi-language — Templates work with all languages supported by the Whisper speech recognition API, including English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, and dozens more
✅
Works in your language
KeisenVPA supports all languages recognized by the Whisper API. Speak in any supported language, and your templates will generate documents in that language. No configuration needed — language is detected automatically.
⚠️
One package at a time
Only one template package can be active at a time. Switching packages replaces the current set of templates. The default package is always available and cannot be edited or deleted.
ℹ️
No external tools needed
Everything you need to create and manage templates is built into KeisenVPA. The built-in editor handles package creation, editing, and organization.

Language Support

KeisenVPA templates work with all languages supported by the Whisper speech recognition API. Record in your language, and your templates will generate documents in that language automatically — no configuration required.

Language is detected automatically from your voice input. You can also mix languages within a single recording — Whisper will transcribe each segment accordingly.

Check Your Language

Search below to see if your language is supported:

Built-in Templates

Each mode shows only its own template packages, and remembers which one you chose in it. KeisenVPA bundles packages for two modes: three for Healthcare (Default, Enhanced, Distilled), which contain the same four inpatient templates in different styles, and one for Linguist (KeisenVPA Linguist Templates). The bundled packages cannot be edited or deleted — fork a template into a package of your own instead.

Healthcare (Healthcare mode only)

  • Create H&P — History and Physical for admissions and consultations
  • Create/Update Progress Note — A daily note, or yesterday's note updated with what changed
  • Create Discharge Summary — Hospital course, discharge medications and follow-up
  • Attending Addendum — An attending's addendum to the primary team's nurse practitioner or physician assistant note

In Healthcare mode the Default package is always available as a fallback. These templates do not appear in any other mode.

Linguist (Linguist mode only)

For learning a language from whatever is in the conversation: pasted or typed text, a Live Translation session file you attach, dictation, or a screenshot. Any language, explained in English unless you ask otherwise, with stress marks for Russian; a point the model is unsure of is marked "(unsure)" instead of being invented.

  • Explain This Passage — Sentence by sentence: a gloss, a natural translation and the grammar, then the vocabulary worth learning
  • Translate & Annotate — A literal and a natural translation, with notes on idiom, register and false friends
  • Session Debrief — From a Live Translation session file: summary, transcription check, key vocabulary, grammar points and five comprehension questions
  • Correct My Writing — Your text corrected, every correction explained, and what to practise next
  • Make Flashcards — An Anki import file (tab-separated: front, back, notes) from the words in the material
  • Quiz Me — Ten questions from the material, the answers hidden at the end
  • Word Deep-Dive — One word in depth: forms, aspect pair, related words, collocations and examples (type the word first)

General and Legal

No bundled packages yet for General or Legal mode, and so none for legal, sales, consulting, research or content work. In those modes the template bar shows only the packages you create or import there; write them in the editor (below) and share them as .kpkg packages. This list grows as packages ship.

✅
All templates included
Every built-in template is available, in its own mode, during your trial and with any license. You can also use them as starting points for your own custom templates.

Creating Templates

Build custom templates directly in the app using the built-in editor. No external tools or coding required.

Open the Template Editor

  1. Click Edit beside the template buttons, or choose View ▸ Template Editor… (⌘⇧M on a Mac, Ctrl+Shift+M on Linux)
  2. Pick a package at the top; the editor lists the current mode's packages only. A bundled package is read-only: click Customize… to make an editable copy of your own (the built-in one is never changed)
  3. In a package of your own, click Add for a new template, or select a template to change it

Define Your Template

The editor's Edit tab has:

  • Name — The label on the template's button
  • Description — Optional, shown when you hover over the button
  • Prompt — The instructions sent to the model when you click the button. Insert {{CLINICIAN_NAME}} adds a placeholder for the name you enter in Settings
  • Only enable when transcripts are loaded — For templates that need a transcript

Save, Compare and Restore

Click Save to record a new version, with an optional summary of what changed. The History tab keeps every version: select one to Compare with current or Restore this version…, or select two to see what changed between them. There is no preview; to try a template, save it and click its button in a conversation.

ℹ️
Custom templates require a license
Customizing a package and saving, exporting or deleting templates requires a license. During the trial, you can use all built-in templates.

Importing & Exporting

Move template packages between devices or share them with others using the import/export features.

Exporting a Package

There are two ways to export, and both need a license:

  • Export beside the template buttons exports the active package. It exports only a package of your own and declines a bundled one.
  • Export… on the Template Editor's Package tab exports the package selected in the editor.

Either way, choose a save location: a .kpkg file with the package's templates and their version history is saved there.

Importing a Package

  1. Click Import beside the template buttons
  2. Select the .kpkg file from your filesystem
  3. KeisenVPA offers to switch to the imported package

An imported package belongs to the mode you import it in, and appears only in that mode.

Manage, beside them, lists the packages you have imported and removes them.

⚠️
Importing replaces a package of the same name
If you import a package with the same name as one you imported before, it replaces that package; the earlier file is kept as a backup. A package cannot take the name of a bundled package.

Sharing with Teams

Share template packages with colleagues to standardize documentation across your team.

How to Share

  1. Export your template package as a .kpkg file
  2. Send the file to your colleagues via email, shared drive, or messaging
  3. Each team member imports the package into their copy of KeisenVPA

This approach keeps things simple — no server or account sync required. Each person has their own local copy of the templates.

✅
Team consistency
By sharing the same template packages, your team produces consistent, standardized documentation regardless of who creates it.

Package Format

A .kpkg file is a ZIP archive holding manifest.json (the package's name, version and author), templates.json (each template's name, prompt, description and color) and, when the package has one, history.json (its version history). Packages you export can be opened with any unzip tool and read; the bundled packages are encrypted.

manifest.json:

JSON
{
  "name": "My Custom Package",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  "author": "Your Name",
  "mode": "general"
}

templates.json:

JSON
[
  {
    "name": "Meeting Summary",
    "prompt": "Summarize the meeting in the transcript...",
    "tooltip": "Decisions, owners and dates",
    "color": "gray",
    "requires_transcript": true
  }
]

Key fields in a package:

  • name, version, author — The package's display name, version and author (manifest.json)
  • mode — The mode the package belongs to (manifest.json): healthcare, general, legal or linguist. KeisenVPA writes it when you create, fork or import a package; an import always takes the mode you import it in, and a package without one is treated as Healthcare's
  • name — A template's button label
  • prompt — The instructions sent to the model
  • tooltip — The optional description shown on hover
  • requires_transcript — Whether the button is enabled only when transcripts are loaded
ℹ️
Edit in-app, not by hand
While the files in an exported .kpkg can be read, we recommend using the built-in editor for all changes. Manual edits may cause validation errors when importing.
